How to Reach Your Broker While Social Distancing
We are living in unprecedented times — and the news on what to do and how to stay safe changes daily. It can be scary just to turn on the news or get updates on the Internet.
In everyday life, we buy insurance to give ourselves peace of mind. We know that insurance is there to help us out if our car or home gets damaged. But there’s no insurance you can buy that will protect you from COVID-19. The best insurance we can “buy’” these days is social distancing.
Social distancing will help protect both ourselves and others. We need to practice social distancing to protect our friends and loved ones.
We at Archway Insurance want you to know that we’re always here for you, no matter what the circumstances. We are willing and able to answer your questions and concerns, even if we can’t do it in person.
We’re one of the biggest Atlantic-owned independent insurance brokerages, and we pride ourselves on always offering you excellent quality and services.
We’ll walk you through all of the following:
- What social distancing is
- How to practice social distancing — but not lose touch
- How you can contact your broker during COVID-19
- Why you may want to contact us during COVID-19
What is social distancing?
We are all being asked to practice social distancing – sometimes referred to as physical distancing – right now. Schools, libraries, and non-essential workplaces are closed to help promote this.
Canada Public Health recommends that we all do the following to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:
- Change your everyday routine to minimize contact with others. Go out only for necessities, such as groceries, once a week.
- Keep at least two metres from others while you are — this excludes those in your immediate household.
- Avoid crowded places and get-togethers. Try to shop early in the morning and late at night.
It’s hard to keep apart from friends and family, but there are ways to keep in touch that doesn’t involve physical contact.
Keep Your Distance, but Don’t Lose Touch
We’ve all had to make a lot of changes to our lives on very short notice. It’s hard not seeing friends, family, and co-workers in person. But the good news is that technology can make this burden easier to bear. Here are some tips on how to keep in touch:
- Conduct virtual meetings via Zoom or Skype
- Have virtual playdates for your kids or have them play online games with their peers
- Call or Facetime your family and friends
Chatting via phone or screen isn’t the same as being in person – but it’s still a great way to keep in touch.
How to Reach us During COVID-19
We have decided to close all of our offices to the public to protect the health and welfare of both our clients and our employees. This was not an easy decision to make, but in order to comply with Health Canada’s recommendations for social distancing, it was the right choice to make.
While many of our employees are now working from home, we’re still here to help and guide you during these challenging times. Just because we’re not in the office doesn’t mean we’re not here for you!
There are several ways you can reach us:
- Contact your broker directly.
- Phone or email. See our location page for details on how to contact us.
If you need to make a payment, please contact your broker or one of our office numbers for details on the various options available.
You can also use our online app to access policy information, including liability cards. The only thing you need to get started is your policy number.
Why You May Want to Reach Us
While life has certainly slowed down during COVID-19, it hasn’t stopped. Car accidents still happen, and property can still get damaged. Or you may be rethinking your life or business insurance set-up. Reach out to us if you need to make insurance changes or make a claim. We’re here for you!
In addition, you may have specific needs related to COVID-19. The Insurance Bureau of Canada has implemented various measures to help Canadians during this time. The two main ones are:
- Offering reduced auto insurance premiums to drivers who are now driving less due to COVID-19
- Honouring requests to defer premiums from Canadians who are experiencing financial difficulty
If either of these situations applies to you, please reach out to us today. We will be happy to work with you and answer any questions you may have. We want to help you during these trying times in any way we can.
We’re in this Together
In times of crisis, our natural reaction is to come together with our friends and neighbours. We want to show that we care — and that’s normally done in person. But COVID-19 has changed how we can react to each other and show our support.
To help protect ourselves and each other, we’ve all had to learn to practice social distancing. Kids are home from school, libraries and recreation centres are closed, and everyone who can work from home is — including our brokers.
We’re trying to all stay home as much as possible and keep 2 metres or 6 feet — or one hockey stick — apart from when we do have to go out. It’s hard, but we’re all sticking together — by staying apart!
We at Archway Insurance are here for you, and you can contact your broker during COVID-19 if you have any new or different insurance needs. We’re here to help you, whether you need to put in a claim or want to see if your auto premiums can be lessened because you’re driving less these days.
